Oscar® winner Jordan Peele disrupted and redefined modern horror with Get Out and then Us. Now, he reimagines the summer movie with a new pop nightmare: the expansive horror epic, Nope. The film reunites Peele with Oscar® winner Daniel Kaluuya (Get Out, Judas and the Black Messiah), who is joined by Keke Palmer (Hustlers, Alice) and Oscar® nominee Steven Yeun (Minari, Okja) as residents in a lonely gulch of inland California who bear witness to an uncanny and chilling discovery. Nope, which co-stars Michael Wincott (Hitchcock, Westworld) and Brandon Perea (The OA, American Insurrection), is written and directed by Jordan Peele and is produced by Ian Cooper (Us, Candyman) and Jordan Peele for Monkeypaw Productions. The film will be released by Universal Pictures worldwide.

The characters in this movie get infused with Jordan Peele's obsession with spectacle, which leads them to try to capture it and profit from it. Nope doesn't entirely come together, but there are some ambitious explorations going on and Peele stretches himself as a filmmaker with the biggest canvas he's taken on to date. Nope isn't as tight as Get Out or as creepy as Us, but it's still a very solid movie that will have people talking after they see it.

What a ridiculous movie. The writer came up with a silly idea and wrapped it around 130 minutes of filler to prolong the agony. The disappointing part of this movie is that it could have been so much more than what it eventually revealed itself to be. An alien spaceship hiding in an artificial cloud - ok, interesting premise. Wait, its purpose is to eat people in its bouncy castle digestive system and then suddenly blow up after trying to digest a large inflatable cowboy? What an insult.

Great film and an interesting introspection on the act of creating film + spectacle and who(and what) gets caught in it's violence.
