Oscar® winner Jordan Peele disrupted and redefined modern horror with Get Out and then Us. Now, he reimagines the summer movie with a new pop nightmare: the expansive horror epic, Nope. The film reunites Peele with Oscar® winner Daniel Kaluuya (Get Out, Judas and the Black Messiah), who is joined by Keke Palmer (Hustlers, Alice) and Oscar® nominee Steven Yeun (Minari, Okja) as residents in a lonely gulch of inland California who bear witness to an uncanny and chilling discovery. Nope, which co-stars Michael Wincott (Hitchcock, Westworld) and Brandon Perea (The OA, American Insurrection), is written and directed by Jordan Peele and is produced by Ian Cooper (Us, Candyman) and Jordan Peele for Monkeypaw Productions. The film will be released by Universal Pictures worldwide.

I prefer to go into a movie with as little information as possible so that the scenes can speak for themselves within their intended context; I loved that the trailers I saw for NOPE were minimalist so that I could enjoy every carefully crafted moment in the movie in sequence. There’s multiple, dense, fascinating on-going stories, every character has a compelling story and personality, and [SPOILERS] that alien is the coolest alien in all of cinematic history. Perfect film.

Umm… Nope! Don’t waste your time. Saw it opening night; was excited for a fun monster/alien. Wasn’t really hoping to see a flying jellyfish thing that murders men, woman, and children on a whim because its grouchy about some plastic flags and fake horse it couldn’t digest. So dumb. (And yes, I did enjoy Get Out. This is nothing even close to that.)

This movie is amazing. Definitely felt like a fun summer blockbuster movie which was really needed given the lack thereof for awhile. Daniel Kaluuya’s face gives you everything you need to know about O.J., from the way he speaks to even when he’s just processing what’s happening around him, it’s interesting. Keke Palmer is always great. I’ve become a fan of Michael Wincott’s now. I’m going to remember that voice forever. Overall, 10/10.
