From Robert Eggers, the visionary filmmaker behind the modern horror masterpiece The Witch, comes this hypnotic and hallucinatory tale of two lighthouse keepers (Willem Dafoe and Robert Pattinson) on a remote and mysterious New England island in the 1890s. As an approaching storm threatens to sweep them from the rock and strange apparitions emerge from the fog, each man begins to suspect that the other has become dangerously unmoored.

Striking and gorgeous imagery, which is at times disturbing. Very purposefully chaotic in its storytelling. I loved the script and the actors' performances; 100% committed. There are so many different layers to this film. I would recommend a watch if you don't mind a bit of gore.

This movie has great acting, haunting sound design and score, and has amazing cinematography. At times the film can be very confusing with no solid answers, but it is still entertaining enough that you won't get too bored. The film is a bit slow at the start, but the more you watch, the crazier and more fast it gets. This film has things to say about power and it becomes a bit more clearer on a secong viewing, so watching it the first time may not be as enjoyable as the second.

A strange mixture of genres, a bit derivative of other horror films and rather gross in a few places, but visually impressive and a good two hander between the actors (Pattinson is barely recognisable). You won't forget it in a hurry! Google are overcharging at $11 rental for such a delayed release though.
