Three sisters - Sachi, Yoshino and Chika - live together in the city of Kamakura, Japan. When their father - absent from the family home for the last 15 years - dies, they travel to the countryside for his funeral and meet their shy, teenage half-sister. Bonding quickly with the orphaned Suzu, they invite her to live with them. Suzu eagerly agrees and a new life of joyful discovery begins for the four siblings.

This movie is wonderful. It has problems that you go through during your life, and it shows how to react from it and what would happen in the end. The characters are fabulous and I recommend Japanese speakers to read the 海街diary manga's (only 8). It is more complex than the movie and I am pretty sure that it came first. Magnificent movie.

I loved this movie. I lived in Japan for three years, and the first year of that was in a family with three sisters, making me the fourth. The characters are so true-to-life, the dialogue so exactly as I remember Japanese sisters talking to each other, that I was pretty much transported back to 1986. The story itself is sweet, barely anything happens, and yet it's engrossing. Now I have to find the manga it's based on.

This was such a feel-good movie! I thought the acting was great, very natural!! All in all a happy story.
