Disney's fantastical adventure Oz The Great And Powerful, from the director of the Spider-Man trilogy, follows Oscar Diggs (James Franco), a small-time circus magician with dubious ethics. When Diggs is hurled away to the vibrant Land of Oz, he thinks he's hit the jackpot - until he meets three witches (Mila Kunis, Rachel Weisz and Michelle Williams), who aren't convinced he's the great wizard everyone's expecting. Reluctantly drawn into epic problems facing Oz and its inhabitants, Oscar must find out who is good and who is evil before it's too late. Putting his magical arts to use through illusion, ingenuity - and even some wizardry - Oscar transforms himself into the great wizard and a better man as well.

This is barely a 3 star movie and definitely not 5 stars. Based on the classic but fails to deliver. This prequel is moronic. Franco couldn't help save this. Felt like he slept through this role. Plot had more holes than swiss cheese and the witches were annoying and dubious women who can't make up their minds. Either that or they were all in heat. Someone please mash the porcelain doll.

The Wizard of Oz is my favorite storyline, and I love the allegory of those pushing for silver currency in the populist movement. I collect momentos about the movie/books that I display proudly because it is my favorite story. I typically love the spinoffs but this was so painful to watch. Franco's acting as the Wizard felt awfully pushed, the storyline was flat, and they relied too much on green-screening the whole thing that it seemed not real at all. I was sorely disappointed. It's not worth your time.

While the scenery and costumes are impressive, the director could've chosen better actors for the designated roles. Theodora (Mila Kunis) isn't scary and intimidating enough as the Wicked Witch of the West and the Winged Baboons are too scary for young audiences. The storyline was more heavily focused on the origins of the Wicked Witch of the West instead of the titular protagonist himself, and it had wasted potential in general. In general, it's a film you can forget about it.
