Xiao Wei (Zhou Xun), a millennia-old fox spirit, has been imprisoned for centuries under a frozen lake as punishment for violating demon laws by saving the life of the man she loved. Her sheer will to survive attracts the bird spirit Xiao Que (Mi Yang)who breaks the ice and revives her. But only when a pure human heart is freely offered to the demon, can Xiao Wei truly live again. To regain her strength Xiao Wei consumes the heart of a stranger, transforming herself into a beautiful seductress. Unknown to her, the stranger is the Prince of Tian Lang Kingdom. I really adore this film. I understood everything perfectly (to my own surprise, I can be thick when it comes to complicated plots) and loved the story. My favourite scene is when Xiao Wei takes off her skin disguise while bathing with the princess. Amazing visuals.
