Elan Lafontaine
This director gets it. From the beautifully fine grained 16mm stock to the old soul sound to the actors, the actors, the actors! - Bene Cooper Smith is worth the price of admission alone, but then you throw in Phil Baker Hall, Tavi Gevinson and Buddy Duress? - they just don't make 'em like they used to. If you don't like it, try to watch it more casually, man - chill out your expectation of being constantly thrilled to death. This isn't the Bourne Supremacy. This movie is giving you the rare chance to watch real people act out real life, good laughs and good times without the rank feeling of advertising execs constantly driving editing choices, without the constant grief of being bowled over by clever plot machinations. I laughed my ass off every single second Bene Cooper Smith was on screen, doesn't matter what he says or does. Like him, this movie oozes class, taste, and most importantly of all, heart.
