Set in the glamour of 1950’s post-war London, renowned dressmaker Reynolds Woodcock (Daniel Day-Lewis) and his sister Cyril (Lesley Manville) are at the center of British fashion, dressing royalty, movie stars, heiresses, socialites, debutants and dames with the distinct style of The House of Woodcock. Women come and go through Woodcock’s life until he comes across a young, strong-willed woman, Alma (Vicky Krieps), who soon becomes a fixture in his life as his muse and lover. Once controlled and planned, he finds his carefully tailored life disrupted by the scariest curse of all...love. I could watch anything with DDL in it. What a masterful actor he is. I could also watch anything that takes you into the fashion world, especially haute-couture. If you love movies about artists and or fashion designers then you will love this one too. The dresses are always central to the story and they are restrained British elegance at its best. The portrayal of Reynolds Woodcock as an arrogant sexist aided by his compliant sister will creep you out! His treatment of his models / muses, (who are obviously inferior to his station), makes for uncomfortable viewing in places. #me too wasn't around in those days! LOL signed Mrs Bruce.

A distortion of the senses or just overwhelmed by a lack of self awareness. We can never be sure in Reynolds Woodcock's world. Alma's world seems much more rational whilst lacking that urge for perfection she knows very well can be a curse but still actively seeks it as a redemptive quality, if only to the most patient.

Disappointing. Excellent actors wasted on an average story.
