It drives me nuts to see how effectively a firm bias can smother creative thought...but this movie presents that dilemma in an entertaining way. IMHO, the pacing is slow, but perfect; the camera work is dated, but captivating; and the "otherworldly" scenery is beautiful.

Classic, essential Science-fiction movie. I first saw this on TV at my grandma's house, back in the early 90s maybe and I loved it instantly. I was like 12yo and already I liked the classic Twilight Zone tv show. With no idea whatsoever of Rod Serlings credit at that time, I sensed that Twilight Zone vibe in Planet of Apes really strongly, leading up to the incredible twist ending, yea. Go ape💯👍

I saw it for the first time just the other day. The makeup is pretty impressive and still had LDS up fairly well. Has a good story and is very exciting. SPOILER ALERT. The surprise twist at the end with the statue of liberty was ruined by the apes finding a talking doll. Why would a planet of apes have a human doll in it. As soon as I saw the scene I understood that Taylor had been on earth the whole movie.
