Claire's (Alicia Witt) life goes on a downward spiral right after graduation. Her boyfriend breaks up with her, her piano teacher (Harvey Fierstein) is fed up with her lack of concentration and her apartment is condemned after an earthquake. With no place to go, she must move back in with her dysfunctional family, an eclectic group of relatives. A story telling matriarch (Marlo Thomas), spirit-seeing patriarch (Elliot Gould), picture-perfect sister (Molly Hagan) and a meddling aunt (Estelle Harris). After several weeks of moping at home, Claire's best friends, Sabrina (Brooke Langton) and Arthur (Johnny Galecki), convince her that partying is the best solution for a broken heart. And in spite of trying to play it cool like "Mona Lisa", Claire meets Eddie (Ivan Sergei), a self-proclaimed heir to a fish market, who sweeps her off her feet. Life, however, takes an unusual twist when a few uncanny family and friends secrets are revealed.
