Als topdetective Harry Goodman op mysterieuze wijze verdwijnt, gaat zijn zoon Tim (Justice Smith) op onderzoek uit. Hierbij krijgt hij hulp van Harry's voormalige Pokémon-partner, detective Pikachu (Ryan Reynolds), een grappige, bijdehante en schattige superspeurneus. Ze ontdekken dat ze het perfecte team vormen, aangezien Tim de enige mens is die met Pikachu kan praten. Samen beleven ze een spannend avontuur terwijl ze het ingewikkelde mysterie proberen te ontrafelen en naar aanwijzingen zoeken in de door neonlicht verlichte straten van Ryme City, een uitgestrekte, moderne metropool waar mensen en Pokémon met elkaar samenleven in een hyperrealistische liveactionwereld. Onderweg komen ze allerlei Pokémon-personages tegen en ze ontdekken een schokkende plot die deze vredige samenleving zou kunnen vernietigen en het hele Pokémon-universum bedreigt.

My my! What a movie! I grew up with Pokémon, still playing the games. Games that become a movie haven't had the best reputation either. But WOW... This, is how you create a good game movie. It takes another path than the (game) series. Looking at a regular citizen within the Pokémon World. I ABSOLUTELY ADORE IT! <3

Amazing movie! I hope they find a way to make the next movie with this Pikachu his voice... The mountain pokemon scene was unbelivably great... even better then some other monster movies...

( SPOILER ALERT ) Partially dissapointed. I have grown up with having pokemons as a friend in the pokemon games, and as a partner in (friendly) battles to other trainers and enemies. Instead they came up with the idea of a city where you may not fight with them, resulting in illegal combat arena's and pokemons using some kind of drug, in order to become stronger and more dangerous, and some kind of lab doing all kinds of experiments on pokemons. Its just not what I expected
