Police Captain Zhong Wen (Jackie Chan) knows all about sacrifice. He’s always been too busy chasing bad guys to be a father to his daughter Miao (Jing Tian). Tonight, he’s seeing her for the first time in years – and meeting her fiance, club owner Wu Jiang (Liu Ye). But Wu knows Zhong. And his plans for the evening include taking Miao, Zhong, and the entire club hostage. Zhong knows about sacrifice. What will he give up to save his daughter?

A tense hostage-drama-meets-mystery with a great lead performance by Jackie Chan as an appropriately grizzled, dutiful officer with his share of scars. Some strong performances and interesting hostage-rescue and negotiation tactics. But on the downside, not a deeply memorable story -- the couple of scenes of action don't tie in very tightly to the central thread. Jackie's moves are as riveting as ever, but the story wasn't written to take advantage of them and it felt a bit disjointed and superfluous. Definitely worth a watch to see Chan play this character; he's a wonderful actor. But he's been in much better films.

This movie is a rehash of every single room, hostage drama you've ever seen. It is entirely claustrophobic and centers around activities happening for the most part, in the main room of a nightclub. The kidnapper and his partner were cage fighters and what do you know, they just happen to take hostages in a building with an octagon handy for impromptu cage matches. The movie is unique in that it is the first Jackie Chan movie I've ever seen that I didn't like and I've seen just about all of them . I spent the whole time fighting to stay awake and looking at my watch. It's the worst movie Jackie ever made, hands down. But hey, nobody's perfect. When he makes another movie, I'll watch it but this one's a turkey.

Lockdown stands alone from the other Police Story films. Convoluted plot and light on action, this is worth watching for Jackie Chan fans but not one of his best.
