Bhagwati and Parvati are mere children when they are united in Holy wedlock. His father Neelkanth Pandey packs off Bhagwati to a Gurukul for studies, whereas Parvati's father Shambhunath Pandey with his family leaves Haridwar for Bombay. Parvati grows up into a sophisticated city girl and changes her name to Pamela. Parties, Pop music and swinging, that is her life. Bhagwati returns from Gurukul and Neelkanth Pandey sends for Parvati so that both might live together as husband and wife. But the city-bred girl does not like the simpleton from Gurukul. Denouncing the silly child hood marriage she returns to Bombay. Bhagwati and his father lose face amongst their orthodox Panda kinsfolk. But Bhagwati does not lose his heart. He makes himself a solemn promise that by hook or crook he will bring his straying wife to the right path. After facing big difficulties and crossing many hurdles, Bhagwati succeeds at last in reclaiming Parvati. And they both realize they were wrong. Together, the husband and wife find the middle path to marital happiness and bliss.
