When "Porco" - whose face has been transformed into that of a pig by a mysterious spell - infuriates a band of sky pirates with his aerial heroics, the pirates hire Curtis, a comical rival pilot, to "get rid" of him.

On the ground, the two pilots compete over the affections of Gina, a beautiful cabaret singer. But it is in the air, with Fio, a young and talented airplane engineer/designer, where Porco's true battles are waged.

From its Mediterranean Sea settings to its dazzling aerial dogfights of amazing sweep and grace, PORCO ROSSO is an exhilarating ride you'll never forget.

When I saw this was available I was flooded with childhood memories. Used to watch this movie on a VHS tape. Unfortunately this is not the original English dub. It's been re-dubbed. The re-dub isn't terrible but it's not the same from my childhood. Wished I rented it first instead of buying it straight out. Regardless of whether you're hit by nostalgia or not, this is still a great movie with interesting characters, and well worth watching.

Most of Hayao's earlier features are great! Nausicaa was a comic book series from the early 80's that I purchased avidly but didn't get a chance to view the Ghibli's first till the 90's. I also got copies of kikki's d.s., Princess mononoki and the one I enjoyed and still do is the historic flying in the Mediterranean film about the flier turned into a pig "Porco Rosso"!!!!!!!!
