About this movie

This is an epic tale of two gangs, like The Jets and The Sharks. But Girl and Chocolate aren't even gangs. Some of them act tough and some of them act like babies. But they are even more unlike the Jets and The Sharks in that they aren't even battling each other for territory. They really don't know what the hell they are doing. They don't have a feud, most of them really like each other so that is another thing they don't have in common with the Jets and the Sharks. What they do have in common with The Jets and The Sharks is they love to dance. And when I say dance, I mean SKATE. And when I say SKATE, I mean really good. From the directors that brought you Mouse, Yeah Right and Fully Flared, another chapter in this tale with no plot, no ending but beautiful inner battles acted out on a little board with wheels.

I was a little late to the party with this one. After taking a hiatus from skating and skate culture for a few years, I recently found out about this movie. This definitely takes things to the next level. Think along the lines of what "Art of Flight" was for snowboard movies but for skateboarding. Professional cinematography combined with the best skateboarding ever, from multiple generations. If you have even a fleeting interest in skateboarding, this will be worth your time and money. Good soundtrack too. I don't know what else to say. Watch it as soon as possible. I'm going to go skate now. Bye.

Features great skating, great production value (to be expected from a Spike Jonze flick). A Girl/Choc film through and through. The Suicidal Tendencies tracks made some parts harder to watch, but that could just be personal preference; I've never felt Thrash tracks were suited to skating. They seem to lack the rhythm & pacing that syncs up so well with most footage. That said, the majority of the tracks were great and the editing was (of course) top notch. Personal highlights were Mikemo's part and the Kenny Anderson & friends montage. Will be watching this many more times, for sure.
