This is one of the most inspiring movie we've sat down together and enjoyed as a family. It's a Disney movie, an ideal family movie, but unlike the cartoons, superheroes and Star Wars that Disney has been making, the Queen of Katwe is totally different to anything Disney has made before. For one it's based on a true story of a 10 year old who goes on to become a chess grandmaster. Although it's a feel-good, inspiring movie, it also raises awareness of hardships, poverty, racial divides and the oppression of woman. This is something that I've never seen addressed before in a childrens film, let alone a Disney movie. For a little girl to overcome such odds is truly inspiring. I hope Disney continues to steer in this direction with it's movies, exporing different cultures, their struggles and plight - and not more of the superheroes and animes we're accustomed to.
