Le réalisateur Steven Spielberg vous présente Ready Player One, une aventure alliant science-fiction et action basée sur le best-seller éponyme d’Ernest Cline. Le film se déroule en 2045, alors que le monde semble destiné à sombrer dans le chaos. Mais les gens ont trouvé leur salut dans l’OASIS, un gigantesque univers virtuel créé par le brillant et excentrique James Halliday (Mark Rylance). Quand ce dernier décède, il promet de léguer son immense fortune à la première personne qui trouvera un œuf de Pâques numérique caché quelque part dans l’OASIS ; ce qui provoque une ruée qui s’empare du monde entier. Lorsqu’un jeune héros improbable nommé Wade Watts (Tye Sheridan) décide de participer au concours, il est catapulté sur une chasse au trésor électrisante et surréaliste dans un univers fantastique où l’attendent mystères, découvertes et dangers.

Notes et avis

I loved the book, so I went to watch RPO in theaters at the release. I never expect the movie to be as good as the book, but this movie just screws up in all the worst ways. The fact that a few people fell asleep midway through says it all. The most significant parts of the story are left out, while all the scenes with action are kept in without much context. Almost every story element is out of order and the character depictions poorly resemble the original book versions. Just a disappointment.

This is actually a lot of fun. I don't know if it will hold up over time as reference movies are becoming a genre, but in my opinion this was a lot of fun. The references felt genuine in context with the game and the movie still holds up without needing to rely on it. If I hadn't seen Space Jam 2, Rescue Rangers, and many others since I'd probably give this a 4.

I loved the book so much and hated the changes in the film. Understanding that there was a need to cut time down to tell the story, I just thought it took too many freedoms to do so while sharing a different telling of the story. That said, I'd watch it again and maybe grow to enjoy it for the cinematics but do yourself a favor and read the book. Or listen to it with Will Wheaton who did a phenomenal job!
