I came into the beginning of this film with high hopes after reading, and loving, the book. I was to say the least disappointed and confused! There were so many plot holes and none of the challenges matched those in the book, it never showed anyone going through the copper or jade Gate and completely overlooked the importance and magnitude of the final battle! The ending with halliday was all wrong aswell. Tl;Dr either read the book or watch the film, don't do both you'll get annoyed and confused...

The biggest mistake I made was reading the book penned by Ernest Cline before watching the Steven Spielberg directed film of the same name. There are quite a number of reasons for this, I can think of 13 off the top of my head but i'm not going to explain my reasons for my dislike of this film, other than if I had seen it 'cold' I think I would have had a better experience.

An Action packed, rip-roaring adventure that gives an unrealistic but relatable journey through the disconnect of virtual vs reality. The special effects and CG are some of the best in a movie to date and are combined very well with the 'reality' in the movie, making for a very immersive experience. Literally no movie adaptation of a book is ever as good as the book itself because of the constraints and practicality of film making. But that is no excuse for giving this movie a bad rating.
