From Executive Producers who brought you Quarantine, comes the movie that inspired the terror. A beautiful TV reporter (Manuela Velasco, Law of Desire) and her cameraman are doing a routine interview at a local fire station when an emergency call comes in. Accompanying the firefighters to a nearby apartment, the news team begins recording the bloodcurdling screams coming from inside an elderly woman's unit. After authorities seal off the building to contain the threat, the news crew, firefighters and residents are trapped to face a lethal terror inside. Notes et avis

Rec is a very average film. It has some highlights, but it has more minor flaws that bring it down from being a good movie to just an ok one. Things like having all the important bits actually being in frame and (relatively) steady throughout all scenes are great, but other things like having the camera angle be set up for "the perfect jumpscare" happen too frequently. The big climactic ending was a very big disappointment, as the whole movie had been much slower and more subtle up to that point and.

Maybe I'm missing some kind of artistic merit for this original version but I like the Quarantine version better. It just seemed to have better production quality and better acting. This one was good and I give it it's due as being the original but I think many people are just always going to be predisposed to just go along with the mantra that the "original is better". I say watch Quarantine if you would rather hear actors speaking English in their own voice. This movie has English voiceovers.

The original REC is very good. This version has one of the worst dubbing jobs I've ever encountered. It's worse than 1970s kung fu movies. The voice-over is completely distracting because the tone and the emotions do not match at all. Do yourself a favor and watch it with sub-titles or on some other service.
