The main character is an irresponsible jerk who was a porn actor in California before returning to Texas. His decision to try to get his girlfriend Strawberry (the reason for the unappealing photo of him in a doughnut, which is not funny or effective at all) into the porn industry in California is not funny or amusing. He has a good heart, but he is manipulative and there is a calculating aspect to him that is not amusing at all.

This movie was boring and the lead unlikable. I walked out less than halfway through. I'm glad I didn't pay to see this trash. A24, I'm disappointed in you. Stick to making horror movies.

The reviews here are vehemently upsetting to say the least. I suppose a more refined pallet may be needed. Howbeit, what a MOVIE! Leave it to Sean Baker to completely blow you away with an odd tale of a narcissistic douche— that’s in reality a Trojan inundated with provocative underlying themes.
