Rich Hill, Missouri (population 1,393) could be any of the countless small towns that blanket America's heartland, but to teenagers Andrew, Harley and Appachey, it's home. As they ride their skateboards, go to football practice, and arm wrestle their fathers, they are like millions of other boys coming of age the world over. But faced with unfortunate circumstances -- an imprisoned mother, isolation, instability, and parental unemployment -- adolescence can be a day-to-day struggle just to survive. With no road map and all evidence to the contrary, they cling to the hope that hard work will be rewarded and even they can live the American dream. Spending a year with these boys and their families, homegrown Missouri filmmakers Tracy Droz Tragos and Andrew Droz Palermo craft a tale that is cinematically rich and exquisitely intimate, and put a human face on rural poverty in a respectful and artistic way. Although the topic of this documentary seemed promising, and the story of these three boys is heartbreaking, it seemed as if the filmmakers never made a strong statement of anything besides "poverty is bad." While true, since they spent a year with these boys it seems as if a stronger stand or angle should have been taken--looking at health issues, education, the justice system, parenting, etc. could have made this more powerful.

Terrible. One of the kids had a family and good support and goals. Other two just a waste of oxygen and space....proves stupid people should not breed and that how they act and allowing their kids to smoke at 13 and 14 in the house....I mean really....set standards and goals for your children.....shows why America is headed down the wrong road.......

I have not seen"Rich Hill" yet but will watch it soon im already giving it 4 stars..looks like a very good documentary!my name is in the documentary..Andrew!
