This performance is so edgy and takes so many chances. Just when you think this king ridiculous and utterly unsympathetic, he begins to change in subtle ways and ends by breaking your heart. Just as in Bright Star, Ben Whishaw pulls the viewer in until you feel in yourself every nuance of what his character feels. A true genius.
