Two fathers: Michael Sullivan, a hit man for the Irish mob in depression-era Chicago; And Mr. John Rooney, Sullivan's boss and the man who raised him as a son. Two sons: Michael Sullivan, Jr. and Connor Rooney, each desperate to earn his father's favor. Jealousy and competition put them all on a collision course, ultimately bringing Sullivan's work into his private life and leading to the death of his beloved wife and youngest son, Peter. Biggest most boring load of rubbish I've ever had the misfortune to sit through. No character development, I couldn't care less who died I just wished they'd hurry up and get on with it. Critics will tell you how beautifully it was shot and it is. But it's another case of style over substance. No real plot and Tom Hanks is just ridiculous as a mafia hit man. The man has one expression throughout the film, to me he looks constipated. I've sat through this drivel so you don't have to. Avoid.
