About this movie

Tom Cruise, Russell Brand, Alec Baldwin, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Paul Giamatti and Bryan Cranston join songstress sensation Mary J. Blige and Dancing with the Stars' Julianne Hough in this film adaptation of the smash-hit Broadway musical that does with 80s rock anthems what Mamma Mia did with Abba tunes. Directed and choreographed by Hairspray's Adam Shankman, this hard-rocking musical tells the story of small-town girl Sherrie (Hough) and city boy Drew (newcomer Diego Boneta) who meet on the Sunset Strip while pursuing their Hollywood dreams. Their rock 'n' roll romance is told through the heart-pounding hits of Def Leppard, Journey, Foreigner, Bon Jovi, Joan Jett, REO Speedwagon, Pat Benatar amongst other power ballads.

I am not sure what was so different in this Extended version except a few scenes that might have went a tiny bit longer, but this movie is hilarious. Tom Cruise is 50 years old and is the star of the show. A few parts are overly-cheesy to the point of "meh", but the Catherine-Zeta Jones, Brian Cranston, Alec Baldwin, and the great TOM CRUISE parts are absolutely EPIC. Cruise even sang his own songs!! Google it! "Tom Cruise sang for Rock of Ages". This movie is great, and well worth a buy.

Tom gets to strut while making a mockery of the music & stars of the 80s. A true waste of celluloid. Nuff Said

My husband who likes musicals as much as I do has made the awesome suggestion that there should be a sequel to this awesome piece of cinema. The only part of it that I found a bit off was Russell Brand and Alec Baldwin singing, Can't fight this feeling. Other than that, we absolutely love this movie. We watch it weekly blasting it from the tv speakers and proudly singing the songs that remind us of our youth.
