Thalberg, and starring Norma Shearer, Leslie Howard, John Barrymore, Edna May Oliver, and Basil Rathbone, this lavishly designed production of Shakespeare's classic tale of star-crossed lovers was nominated for four Academy Awards, including Best Actress (Norma Shearer), Best Supporting Actor (Basil Rathbone), Best Art Direction, and Best Picture. Over 2,000 extras were used.
