About this movie

Disney presents the inspiring true story of one little girl whose strength and dignity during the racially charged 1960s helped change history! When bright six-year-old Ruby is chosen to be the first African-American to integrate her local New Orleans elementary school, she is subjected to the true ugliness of racism for the very first time. But guided by the love of her mother and father, Ruby's heroic struggle for a better education becomes a lesson for us all! An acclaimed and entertaining motion picture also starring Penelope Ann Miller and Kevin Pollak -- you'll want to share this remarkable story of courage and pride with your family!

This is a fantastic movie. I show it to my students every year. They are both horrified at the treatment of this little girl and grateful that they now go to school with everyone and can be best friends with anyone. I hope this lesson sticks with them and they continue to make a better world for all humans.

They don't add in the movie the truth, that it was the democrat party that created slavery, segregation, Jim Crow laws, and ghetto plantations in every city they run. Republicans freed the slaves and fought for freedom and equality.

This is a strong Black Family.. Seems Most Black women are only concerned about being The Real House wives of life in the Fab Lane.. I am so glad I am ole fashioned. I like coming home to a nice home cook meal, ask the kids how was school and do your homework before they go play.. I double check their work as they play.. Somewhere is my wife like the character in this movies..
