From Academy Award winning director Ron Howard, set against the golden age of Formula 1 racing, Rush portrays the fast paced, action packed and exhilarating true story of one of the greatest rivals the sport has ever witnessed - James Hunt versus Niki Lauda, and their illustrious Formula 1 racing teams, McLaren versus Ferrari. Privileged, charismatic and handsome English playboy, James Hunt (Chris Hemsworth) could not be more different from his reserved and methodical opponent, Austrian born Niki Lauda (Daniel Bruhl). Rush follows their chequered personal lives both on and off the track and charts their rivalry from its inception in Formula 3. Here they competed viciously against each other until Lauda's superior business acumen and surgeon like precision behind the wheel propelled him all the way to Formula 1; eventually landing him the number one spot at Ferrari. However it was not long before unruly golden boy James Hunt fought his way into Formula 1, and into the hearts of a nation, dramatically seizing the world championship from Lauda and proving to the critics, and more importantly himself, that there was real substance beneath his stylish exterior. Seems more presented by than, directed by. The character building parts of the film were very thorough yet the rivalry between Hunt and Lauda, both on and off the track, was a little lacking on substance. A great film but lacking the usual Ron Howard depth... 3 stars.

Watching this I felt like I was watching a fast paced documentary. Slightly long but convincing performances and epic production value. Worthy of a watch. Follow up with 'S enna' if you like this flick.

Thrilling race sequences and great characterisation together make for compelling viewing. This is a motorsport movie well worth watching... even if just to admire the way the film inspires that perfect combination of dislike and grudging admiration for the ambitious, self centred, but incredibly talented Niki Lauder.
