Romantic fix, if you are looking for a strand or two of tinsel on the dark wet pavement of Christmas in NY, and can ignore the damage that "fate" leaves in the wake of our protagonists. I echo the sentiment of one reviewer who said they enjoyed it perhaps more than they should have. Some supporting roles held it together. Despite most comments here, I would not hold out hope for this as a date movie. Handle this bauble with care; it breaks easily and the implied edges are sharp. I like to think how good this movie could have been. Good cast, decent music, and a magical, if myopic, romance. If you can skip the disregard for almost everyone's happiness but their own, it can fill an empty hour.

In an age where everything is online and meeting a friend of a friend is the norm, this movie takes you back to meeting a perfect stranger (by chance) and takling face to face. Having the courage to put yourself out there and following your heart. Everyone should aspire to be that "Jackass" at least once in their lifetime.

This movie actually was released in September 2001. I remember vividly joining a bunch of DC residents to watch this movie in DuPont Circle the Friday after 9/11. It was a bit jarring as it was the first moment for many of us to suspend the horrible reality of the week. But the opening studio roll was panning from time square to downtown NY. We gasped. Watching the movie felt like looking back into a closing window to a simpler time just a week prior. I have not seen much written about this movie's coincidence with 9/11 but it was a part of the experience of that week for many of us.
