An underrated, entertaining but rather bloodless remake of the 1956 AIP original. This time it's the turn of the 19th century and beautiful actress Rya Kihlstedt is the deadly and seductive mermaid entrancing all who see her, including Carla Gugino, who invests her character Lilian "Lily" Shaw, with full bodied sexuality, earthy complexity and wisdom. The creature itself, designed by Stan Winston, is a magnificent creation when it is revealed in the final act.

Creepy film that has suspense and thrills. Cool modern take but set in older times. Class horror style movie.
