An early film by acclaimed filmmaker David Cronenberg. Residents of a high rise building are infected with a parasite that turn them into sex-crazed and violent hosts. A doctor races to contain the infection before it spreads from the building to the entire city.

I like low-budget movies made before 1980 because they used real clothing for costumes and real places as sets. This movie is a great example of that syndrome with a "luxury" Montreal apartment building as its setting and the latest in Canadian polyester fashion clothing the actors. Speaking of syndromes, the story is about parasites that drive their victims to infect new hosts - sexually. The story is simple and sensational with a nice balance of dialog, action, grossness and creepy horror. The dialog is stilted at times, and much of the acting is more interesting for its dated 70s pseudo natural style than its believability. But the main reason to watch, and the reason I like this movie so much, is that it depicts a barely stylized version of 1975 Montreal with one really sick plot twist and a novel idea about how sex, science and disease could come together to turn an upscale apartment building "with all the amenities" into a nightmarish madhouse full of disease - and sex. This is David Cronenberg's first commercial movie.

A original horror masterpiece loved it when I first seen it at the drive in when I was 15 a true classic by cronnenberg just like a painting every brush stroke tells the story
