13-year-old Roma boy Ernst is sent to a mental sanatorium in Nazi Germany. There he is kept under the watchful eye of Dr. Werner Veithausen (Sebastian Koch, The Lives of Others), who has been tasked with carrying out the early stages of the Nazi's euthanasia program. Ernst grows close to the inhabitants of the hospital, mostly sick children and disabled adults, so when he discovers the real horror that awaits them he has to stop it. Based on a shocking true story, Fog in August depicts the horrific realities of Nazi Germany through the eyes of a child.
