Frank (John Pollono), Swaino (Jon Bernthal) and Packie (Shea Whigham) are lifelong friends who share a love of the Red Sox, rowdy bars and Frank's teenaged daughter Crystal (Ciara Bravo). But when Frank invites his pals to a whiskey-fueled evening and asks them to do a favor on behalf of the brash young woman they all adore, events spin wildly out of control. Based on Pollono's award-winning play, Small Engine Repair is a pitch-black comedic drama with a wicked twist, and a powerful exploration of brotherhood, class struggle and toxic masculinity.

I loved the trailer, looked like it was going to be a great movie, right up until the end when they just HAD to throw in the "story about toxic masculinity" tag line. It could be the best movie in the world, but I'll never watch it. I get that most entertainment industry people are way left of center but they should really leave their religion out of their films. People just want to be entertained without having idiotic dogma shoved down there throats.

Never heard of this movie, found it as a fluke just scrolling. My husband and I agreed, very good .. (lots of fuel language, I'm a NYer, doesn't bother me lol) Had ZERO way of knowing how it was going to be. Fantastic, I'm thinking teens and adults NEED to watch this! This way of life, in 2021. Great actors, well written, I even got choked up a bit.

I had never heard of this movie, let alone the play it's based off of, but I went in sight unseen (really, trailer unseen) and absolutely loved this indie gem. Cathartic in every way, it expertly throws together thrills, drama, and comedy. A truly original film and perhaps the best I've seen in 2021 so far!
