A goofy gem of great acting, witty dialogue (especially the rat-a-tat between Tony Curtis and Jack Lemmon). Monroe is a perfect blend of sweet and sneaky, ruthless exterior but romantic heart -- and she steals every scene with her charisma. I recently watched it without sound, and the body movements (not only the men's exaggerated female-ness) but of the whole cast, and it was still a delight. The slim silly gangster subplot just does enough to push the story forward -- at a rollicking pace, full of classic moments and hidden call-outs (see grapefruit half) that make it a pleasure to watch again and again.

This movie will offer many a laugh in this comedy and some tense gangster drama. Black and white, but it does leave you the impression of an early 20th century theme. Marilyn reveals just how talented she is, and I admire her acting effort and good singing acts as well. You just have to like this "hot" movie!

Used to watch this with my mom when I was a kid, and 30 years later, I own it on multiple formats. Funny, charming, with just the right dash of suspense and action to keep the story moving. It's definitely an underrated "classic". Also, keep in mind that it was intentionally filmed in black&white to stay true to the prohibition era "feel", the movie itself is not THAT old, but certainly feels legit.
