About this movie

Song of the Sea tells the story of Ben and his little sister Saoirse - the last Seal-child - who embark on a fantastic journey across a fading world of ancient legend and magic in an attempt to return to their home by the sea. The film takes inspiration from the mythological Selkies of Irish folklore, who live as seals in the sea but become humans on land.

Rented on a wet Saturday afternoon to calm down my 2 year old daughter who was bored and frustrated at being stuck indoors. She lay down on the sofa and was captivated by it from start to finish, and I even really enjoyed it myself. So much better than the Disney garbage (with all the resulting merchandise you can't avoid in the shops) and great to see some hand drawn animation in a world that's becoming dominated with CGI.

Great story weaves together so many themes through Visually and musically beautiful animation. HD worthwhile if you can render it (3GB RAM wasn't enough for us without it stalling), every frame is a work of art.

It's a calming and entrancing ride for your younger kids. Your older kids will love it too, but you're just not allowed to notice. The same studio has a kids animation about puffins, almost as good đź‘Ť
