About this movie

From acclaimed director Antoine Fuqua (TRAINING DAY) and screenwriter Kurt Sutter (TV's SONS OF ANARCHY), SOUTHPAW tells the riveting story of Billy "The Great" Hope, reigning Light Heavyweight Boxing Champion of the World (Academy Award®-nominee Jake Gyllenhaal). Billy seemingly has it all with an impressive career, a beautiful and loving wife (Rachel McAdams), an adorable daughter (Oona Laurence), and a lavish lifestyle. When tragedy strikes and his lifelong manager and friend (Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson) leaves him behind, Hope hits rock bottom and turns to an unlikely savior at a run-down local gym: Tick Willis (Academy Award®-winner Forest Whitaker), a retired fighter and trainer to the city's toughest amateur boxers. With his future riding on Tick's guidance and tenacity, Billy enters one last epic fight as he struggles with redemption and to win back the trust of those he loves.

*Spoiler Alert*..... I really liked the movie, Jake, Rachel, and Kurt are great. The fighting scenes were very well done you forget your watching a movie for a minute and think you are watching a fight. How the Hell does he go bankrupt in a month? And the way he looses his daughter so quickly doesn't add up. The story felt very rushed there. Yes it's predictable, it's a boxing movie! But it is a good one and I go to movies to be entertained so I would recommend it. 3/5 *

Don't be a hater, this film was what it was meant to be....a fight film. And like all good fight films it has a come back kid in it and some behind the scenes drama. With supporting cast like Forest Whitaker and Rachel Mc Adams you get good back story acting. Jake Gyllenhaal gives a very believable performance as a fighter and as someone who grew up in "the system". I love a good fight film and a heart-felt film as well. This ticked off all the right boxes to score top marks. I would have given it 5 stars but it was a tad predictable. Still a good night at the movies, I'm glad I picked this one to watch tonight.

I feel bad this could of been his best performance ever another oscar maybe. It was flawed by 2 reasons in my head.#1 it was very predictable& had no suprises.#2 This movies is mostly based off him loosing his wife yes he win the fight blah blah but nothing was actually done about the guy who killed his wife.
