About this movie

An opening shot of one of those enormous, endlessly flowing, across-the-top-of-the-screen George Lucas space cruisers introduces us into the not-quite-so-serious world of director Mel Brooks' planet Spaceball, which is attempting to steal the atmosphere.

What can be said for Mel Brooks? You either love his stuff to death or can't stand it. I'm of the former group. This is definitely my favorite of his, although Young Frankenstein comes very close. While flawed in some places, it is nevertheless thoroughly enjoyable and laugh out loud funny even on multiple viewings (and trust me, I've had more than a few viewings of this).

I really just don't like anything that Mel Brooks has made. Most of his work is just too corny and, while I generally *love* corny humor, his work is mediocre at best. I just end up being bored after a few minutes of extremely lazy satire.

I did laugh but not nearly as many times as the first time I saw it about 15 years ago when I was a child. Starting to show it's age. Perfect example of humour not being forever. The merchandise joke was the best part. After the dessert its downhill. Still worth a look. The Internet has made funny stuff so easy to find. I guess I just need to be pounded with jokes constantly ori get a little bored. The movie seemed to drag in parts. its not as good as I remembered it. Shame but its still OK.
