About this movie

Spaceship Earth is the true, stranger-than-fiction, adventure of eight visionaries who in 1991 spent two years quarantined inside of a self-engineered biodome called BIOSPHERE 2. The experiment was a worldwide phenomenon, chronicling daily existence in the face of life threatening ecological disaster and a growing criticism that it was nothing more than a cult. The bizarre story is both a cautionary tale and a hopeful lesson of how a small group of dreamers could potentially reimagine a new world.

I had followed the project myself in the papers and news of the time, but I had no idea of its origins, and what was really going on. This was all very informative. The best way to learn is from failure and what we learned from our very first attempt can help us to do better as we move towards sustainable space habitats and colonies. Not to mention to illustrates how valuable Biosphere 1 is to our health and survival as coexisting species.

I enjoyed the back story of how the community started and established their mission with incredible ambition. I think this documentary illustrated well their determination to inspire and create a more healthy way of living together. It was fascinating seeing what a small group of people were able to achieve. Highly recommend checking this out.
