About this movie

It's the 23rd century, and a mysterious alien power is threatening Earth by evaporating the oceans and destroying the atmosphere. In a frantic attempt to save mankind, Kirk and his crew must time travel back to 1986 San Francisco where they find a world of punk, pizza and exact-change buses that are as alien as anything they've ever encountered in the far reaches of the galaxy. A thrilling, action-packed Star Trek adventure!

I think with the exception Insurrection this is my least favourite Trek film. It's just so cheesy at times that it really pulls me out of the film and tonally is too comedic to the point where I just can't take the serious bits as serious as the film wants me to. It's a shame as the idea for the film is pretty good and the cast all do a great job with what they were given.

Arguably the most important work to emerge from the Star Trek franchise, melding such bold, salutary themes as cetacean rights and the future of the biosphere with glistening moments of perfect comedy, The Voyage Home, Leonard Nimoy's second outing as director, packs an intelligent and emotional wallop, held aloft by a magnificent score by Leonard Rosenman. Conscientious, imaginative human beings with a capacity for empathy will immediately understand why this film is brilliant and beautiful.

I wish I could give this 6 stars. I 1st saw this on release and I still remember how much it shook me up. The film gave me an ongoing love of all things sci-fi and also the environment. A timely film now as much as when first released.
