About this movie

Eric (Jack O'Connell) is a violent young offender, prematurely thrown into the dark world of an adult prison. As he struggles to assert himself against the prison officers and the other inmates, he has to confront his own father, Nev (Ben Mendelsohn); a man who has spent most of his life in jail. As Eric forges allegiances with other prisoners, he learns that his rage can be overcome and discovers the new rules of survival. But there are forces at work which threaten to destroy him.

Gritty prison dramas are again de rigeur following the success of The Prophet and Starred Up is at least as down and dirty. The direction is claustrophobia-inducing and made me feel part of the action. Very well done and highly recommended.

It is really good, I went to the festival to meet Jack and watch the movie. It is really good, but not a 5/5, Shawshank Redemption is, and not many movies live up to them level of films. If you rate this 5/5 then you haven't seen many films. The full movie is also on Youtube by the way.
