Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly, who last teamed in the box-office smash Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby, now star in Step Brothers, directed by Adam McKay (Talladega Nights). In Step Brothers, Ferrell plays Brennan Huff, a sporadically employed thirty-nine-year-old who lives with his mother, Nancy (Mary Steenburgen). Reilly plays Dale Doback, a terminally unemployed forty-year-old who lives with his father, Robert (Richard Jenkins). When Robert and Nancy marry and move in together, Brennan and Dale are forced to live with each other as step brothers. As their narcissism and downright aggressive laziness threaten to tear the family apart, these two middle-aged, immature, overgrown boys will orchestrate an insane, elaborate plan to bring their parents back together. initially i thought of this as a "bad" movie, but you have to realize that the film making in hollywood is so high level that even the "bad" movies can have top rate talent from top to bottom. "step brothers" delivers that point in spades. it vastly exceeded my expectations. so many funny moments. acting was good but you can still tell they had a blast making this. have to imagine the gag reel on this film is 3x longer than the actual production. watched this rental because it was about to expire thinking i might not even make it through. in reality: watched it non-stop and was completely captivated most of the time. sure, they don't give oscars for films where a character rubs their scrotum on a drum kit, but that doesn't mean that this film isn't a really solid production, through and through.....

This movie requires no in depth reviews. It's vulgar, poorly acted, juvenile, relies heavily in grossing audiences out, both in content, and just by being made. Awful time consuming waste of time, hey but some people enjoy brain freezes and having teeth pulled without anesthesia!!

Kinda a generational choices, upbringing, maturity and funny as hell for people 40 to 50 that left home and got a real life bitch slapping, job lost or divorce many people know the this and just went back home. Still never completely matured socially or still doing immature things for entertainment and with the friends they hang with.
