Newcomers to the remote Australian desert town of Nathgari, Catherine and Matthew Parker's lives are flung into crisis when they discover their two teenage kids, Tommy and Lily, have mysteriously disappeared just before a massive dust storm hits. With Nathgari eerily smothered in red dust and darkness, the townsfolk join the search led by local cop, David Rae. It soon becomes apparent that something terrible may have happened to children. Suspicion is cast, rumours spread and the town begins to turn against the Parkers. With temperatures rising and the chances of survival plummeting with each passing day. I watched this with some family and we were taken along for the ride. It's a good movie that doesn't fit into any one mould exactly, but that's not a bad thing. Nicole is excellent! Hugo Weaving and most of the rest of the cast are also very good. I feel like we were introduced to a few concepts, characters and themes that had the potential to be explored further.. but they just vanished as a passing moment. There are heavy themes in this movie and while some of them are explored and resolved, quite a few aren't. As other reviews have mentioned, the end of the movie is neither resolved nor cliffhanger-y or thought-provoking enough to really satisfy. The motives of some characters aren't really fleshed out either even though that would have been extremely interesting. The acting, scenery, overall concept and scene-by-scene drama are all worth watching and we were definitely intrigued the whole way. Watch this movie for something different! It's not a bad movie at all in my opinion, it just needed a more satisfying ending. :P

Great cast try holding the prolonged often drifting story line together. Bog stock Oz slow brewed drama. Fiennes Australian accent attempt comes closer to Durban than NT/WA but it adds an genuineness that reflects true Oz diversity in an interesting if not seemingly unintentional manner.
