About this movie

Suburbicon is a peaceful, idyllic, suburban community with affordable homes and manicured lawns -- the perfect place to raise a family, and in the summer of 1959, the Lodge family is doing just that. But the tranquil surface masks a disturbing reality, as husband and father Gardner Lodge must navigate the town's dark underbelly of betrayal, deceit and violence.

This "Fargo-esque" film -- which is not a comedy, contrary to what you may have been led to believe by the trailer -- could have been summed up in a 30-minute episode of a series like The Outer Limits, or in a lesser sci-fi incarnation of Twilight Zone. Sure, Matt Damon and Julianne Moore are impeccable. But that's about it.

Decent story about a family that appears to have the American dream, which may not be enough, as they want more, making life very complicated. Then there's a subplot, parallel story, in which a family just wants the American dream and must struggle against a very hostile community, just to maintain a peaceful life. The juxtaposition summary: one party invites problems, the other has problems come to them.

The teaser text was more interesting than the movie.
