Aspiring singer Ted Mason (Jerome Courtland) works as a tour guide at a television station. His girlfriend, Betty Holloway (Terry Moore), also works there, trying to get Ted his big break. Betty introduces Ted to TV star Frankie Laine (Frankie Laine), who says Ted has talent but lacks a certain quality to make it on television. The key to Ted's success turns out to be his former girlfriend, Gloria Pelly (Audrey Long), the TV station owner's daughter, who becomes Betty's rival.
