I liked it since I saw in the cinema where it should be seen. Writer/director JJ Abrams tells a great fractured father & son relationship because of tragedy involving the mother died early his the family's lives! A mixture of alien(ET) and military action scenes combined with a very beautiful soundtrack by Michael Giacchino giving the emotional heartbeat to the film! It has plenty of flaws for sure! It is worth watching still!

Basically, E.T.'s younger sibling. Not gonna buy it but not sorry I rented it; it's got a few edge-of-seat moments but it is overlong and E.T. is waaay better. Plus, the disappearances weren't explained nor were the missing dogs that showed up in other nearby towns: I need to KNOW THINGS. I need to know WHY. The Monica Geller in me needs loose ends tied up, man! Wondering if the mini movie director kid is what Spielberg was when he was a lad, and the homemade zombie movie during the credits was kinda cute. The acting was good too, especially the munchkins. After Star Wars 7 (Episode 4 much?) and now this, it's beginning to look like JJ Abrams thing is just to remake old movies. He seems to have some talent though, so why not make something original?

Crappy acting, re-hashed plots from previous movies (honestly WotW, E.T, and many others. You'll see references to them all!) All mixed together in one cringe-worthy attempt to make a "movie about making a movie". But that's all my opinion. You may like it, but you may not. If you shell-out the money, I hope you enjoy it.
