When Natalie's (Keaton) daughter Sara dies in a tragic accident, she surprises Sara's friends by visiting them during a Summer getaway trip and reveals just how close she and her daughter were. As Natalie meddles in the lives of those closest to her daughter, hidden truths come to light that threaten to destroy the foundation of friendships built over the years. Meanwhile, Sara's best friend Adam (Tom Everett Scott) hides her journal, convinced Natalie blames him for her daughter's death.
