Writer director Taika Waititi, brings his signature style of humor and pathos to his latest film, JOJO RABBIT, a World War II satire that follows a lonely German boy whose world view is turned upside down when he discovers his single mother is hiding a young girl in their attic. The movie gives a sincere insight to how many Hitler Youth probably saw the war and their leader. It really makes an impression as it gives a surreal picture of the cruelties and terrifying realities in WWII that were propagated as part of the uprising to be a world power. I really appreciated this approach when the norm usually involves a mission, intense dialog and fight scenes. Definitely thought provoking.

If you saw the trailer, the farce of Imaginary Friend Hitler is not overdone in this film, and the character arcs taken are sublime to watch. It will rip your heart out at a couple of scenes, and it is a good reminder that while there are zealots in any war, most people are unwillingly along for the ride their governments take them on. This is a funny movie that will also make you bawl. It deserved more awards.

Easy top 5 for me! The humor is funny and whitty with that good old nazi flair and setting. But this doesn't detract from the actual horrors of indoctrination and the national prejudice going on at the time. This movie will have you squirming from laughing to sobbing in sadness in mere minutes. Fantastic fantastic movie, I as a college kid found the jokes to be fantastic and yet it is still a war time movie. Can't recommend enough!
