Academy Award winner Robert Duvall headlines this touching story of a down-and-out country singer named Mac and the young widow (Tess Harper) he meets in a small Texas town. But as their relationship blossoms, Mac's years of hard living resurface when his music star ex-wife (Betty Buckley) appears in a nearby town, bringing his estranged daughter (Ellen Barkin) with her. Will Mac's painful past lead him toward an uncertain future, or will he find a way to move past his sorrow and start a fresh new life?

As a fan of both actor Robert Duvall and country music movies, I was disappointed in this film. Bottomline, this film is as slow and gentle as the wide open western landscapes that it showcases. As a character study and as an overall cinematic experience, its super bleak. No real big events happen in this film. There is no awesome musical performance. The characters just live out thier slow, boring, burnt out day to day lives and carry on. Watch instead, try 'The Apostle' & 'The HonkeyTonk Man💯

Robert Duvall is wonderful in this film about a washed up country musician who wakes up one day ready to start down the righteous path.

I've watched this movie 50 times over the years ...they don't make them like this anymore
