The accuracy of the movie is poor. 1. Yes, Admiral Yi Sun-Sun did face roughly 300 Japanese ships, but he didn't just have 12 ships. He had the support of the Chinese Navy as well. So the whole "only 12 ships left" thing is wrong. 2. He didn't go into a melee until the battle was closing (because he had to save the Chinese Admiral supporting him). For most of the battle he used his superior cannon ships to damage the Japanese ships, which mainly had arqubusie (forgive my spelling) troops and samurai. Which lead to him being killed by a stray arqubusie ball.

The Great Admiral deserves better. To a reviewer below, 1. The Chinese navy was not involved in the war at this point. It was this decisive victory that gave the Ming empire the assurance that the Choson seas were safe enough to send its navy. 2. He died in the Battle of Noryang, the final battle of the 7 year war.

That battle didn't really go like that but what ever. Everything was good except historical accuracy made the admiral look like a nut because he fought them head first but in reality took on the Japanese at a distance using the artillery and the tide to win that battle
