Academy Award-winner George Clooney is The American in this sexy suspense thriller from director Anton Corbijn. After a job ends more violently than expected, Jack (George Clooney) retreats to the Italian countryside and accepts one last assignment to construct a deadly weapon for a mysterious contact. But when he pursues a relationship with a beautiful local woman, he may be tempting fate by stepping out of the shadows. Slow paced with fits and starts of action, the plot is under developed, but at least the character development allowed some acting skills to be displayed. There were too many technical errors or inconsistencies for anyone who has an inkling of how things actually work, or cost. Clooney brought some weight to this film, but in several scenes it looks like he's really struggling.

Unlike Jason Martinez's review this IS a good movie that doesn't suck. He probably thinks gravity is the best movie ever made. Enough with that dope....this movie is a thinker movie. So you become engrossed in it and are always wondering what will happen next. I like the character development and how you must think to yourself about what other's pasts might be. I hope he lived at the end...an example of how you must use your mind for the explanation. Something Jason Martinez can never do.

They'll let "movie stars" of George Clooney put out mediocrity such as this while tons of great scripts cannot get a greenlight. It's not an awful film but don't waste your money unless you love George Clooney.
