Jacques Vincent Lindon is a respected journalist recovering from a war zone tragedy when he is contacted out of the blue by a Catholic Bishop with a mysterious job offer: lead a canonical investigation into the legitimacy of a reported vision of the Virgin Mary. Arriving in a small French village at the scene of the apparition, he encounters the visionary, young novitiate Anna Galatea Bellugi, along with the defensive local clergy and streams of eager tourists on a pilgrimage to the site.
